1. First of all please understand that there are three types of organization which can be formed to register a NGO:

• Society
• Trust
• Section 25 Company (Section 8 Company as per New Companies Act)

2. You will have to select any one of the form of NGO and register it with the authorities. The relevant authorities are:

• Society- Registrar of Firms, Societies and Chits
• Trust- Sub Registrar
• Section 25 Company- Registrar of Companies

3.  The time taken would be approximately 7-10 days by each registrar after filing of document by the concerned NGO's authorized representative.

4. The charges of each registrar ranges from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 5000 depending upon the form which you choose. You can register each NGO yourself but it would be better to take help of a consultant as the documents drafted by them would be more legally sound. I understand the consultant fees would be a extra burden but it would be beneficial for the NGO in long run, if you hire any consultant the fees of consultant together would cost of NGO registration would be around Rs. 9000 to Rs. 15000 depending upon the expertise of the consultant you choose.
